OUTBACK Steakhouse®, one of America’s most successful restaurant franchise, has come to Indonesia, blending a ‘down under’ Australian ambience with good food. The restaurant in the Ratu Plaza complex in Jakarta is the first US franchise restaurant with an Australian theme to open in Indonesia.
Founded in 1988 in Tampa, Florida by the trio of Chris Sullivan, Robert Basham, and Tim Gannon who were inspired by the famous Australian movie, Crocodile Dundee. The founders confessed that none of them actually been to Australia! The name OUTBACK was derived from the trio’s impression that Australia has a rugged, friendly and casual image, hence their philosophy of “No Rules, Just Right”. The result – a friendly, casual and relaxing place that embodies the spirit of the Australian Outback – bold and exciting food flavors, excellent service and attentive staff.
In South East Asia located in very prime location such as Ratu Plaza & Pondok Indah Mall 1 in Jakarta, and we open other stores in Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. Historically, with over 800 outlets in the world, OUTBACK Steakhouse is actually an American outlet with an Australian theme. At OUTBACK, the walls are festooned with boomerangs, Aboriginal art prints, travel posters, kangaroos, wallabies and koalas, images evocative of the great Australian OUTBACK.
The OUTBACK Steakhouse® menu offers a variety of dishes comprising of starters, main courses, and desserts. For starters, called Aussie-tizers and OUTBACK’s signature dish, the Typhoon Bloom, which is an all time favorite starter, you can experience Bushman ‘Shrooms. Other specialties promoted by this restaurant are its desserts. OUTBACK offers the customer’s favorite, Chocolate Thunder From Down Under which is freshly – baked pecan brownie, topped with rich vanilla ice cream, hot homemade chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings. This is a “must-try” for “Chockie” lovers.
Another must-try is The Mango Darned, which is Down Under frozen wonder with Mango nectar and secret misers. This is so good that even the “non-alkies” will want to come back for more!
The opening of OUTBACK Steakhouse® shows that the Indonesian market is still of interest to foreign investors. The President Director and Franchisee of OUTBACK Steakhouse Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia), Mr. Prasoon Mukherjee, is enthusiastic about supporting Indonesia’s economic recovery. Mr. Mukherjee said, “We are confident about Indonesian market in the future, and plan to open more outlets in other areas. With this investment, we are hoping to provide more employment opportunities for the Indonesian workforce.”
Mr. Mukherjee commented, "We want all of our OUTBACK staff to be closely associated with the community through our programs. At the restaurant's opening in Jakarta, we donated Rp.20 million to the Indonesian Thalassemia Foundation. We hope this will help people, especially those who are underprivileged, who suffer from this disease caused by iron deficiency. In addition to this donation, during our first month, OUTBACK will have donations box at the restaurant and will invite guests to donate cash to raise more funds for the foundation. We also invited around 50 children suffering from thalasemia to break their fast in our restaurant and enjoy our specially kids meal."
